Collaborators...

Chris Breen

Chris Breen is a lyricist, musician and songwriter who is working with a growing list of songwriters, artists and producers internationally. First and foremost a lyricist and writer, Chris has worked on many co-writes with Paul Jeffery over the last two years, to the extent that they are now being recognised as a notable songwriting team working on projects as diverse as rock, hardcore dance/ trance music, commercial pop, pop-rock and ballads, augmenting this with top-line writing work in dance, pop and RnB.

As a musician and songwriter, Chris Breen naturally brings a rhythmic and structured quality to his lyric writing, making it easier for composers to work from his lyrics as a starting point. By the same token, Chris is just as happy to tailor the lyric to existing melodies and arrangements supplied on CD or emailed as an MP3 and, having access to a ProTools project studio, can demo the finished lyric for the composer to audition before submitting to the artist and/or session vocalists.

Chris Breen writes lyrics for many music genres, having worked in pop, pop-rock, dance, RnB, rock, indie, country & new country, jazz, soul, ballads and West End show styles, as well as recently on classical and opera for a full orchestral arrangement. All Chris needs the composer and/or producer to supply is a detailed brief of the artist's style (sample songs/album(s)), photo(s), image and direction guidance and, if working to backing tracks, details on the key, tempo and any likely significant changes to the final arrangement. Information on deadlines/anticipated recording date is obviously important. Chris Breen has been a PRS Member since 1990 and generally writes for recognised/standard PRS-MCPS royalty splits rather than fees.

More Info on Chris...

Chris Breen was born (in the 60's) on the borders of Kent and the East End and is the son of an RAF Spitfire pilot, being christened at the famous Biggin Hill airfield. His family origins are Irish (the surname Breen originating from O'Brien), though Chris was brought up in the Far East (Singapore), his father being stationed there in 1963.

Chris moved back to the London area in the mid/late 60s in time to get a taste for the Beatles - and later Glam Rock - and has been playing guitar and writing music since the days of Punk and New Wave in the late Seventies. Chris Breen lived in the West Country for his later school years and then moved to Nottingham University to initially study Architecture, then Biology and Psychology (yes, I know, no connection!), staying in the East Midlands until moving down to London again, fronting an 80s pop-rock band with the promise of success... just as dance music arrived and 'songs' became totally unfashionable! Well, songs are back big-time, and Chris Breen's range of writing has increased dramatically over the years. Chris Breen now specialises in writing lyrics and top-lines, working with Paul Jeffery to supply top-lines to dance, RnB and pop producers or write songs from scratch for artists, managers and producers. Cath Goldsbrough

Cath Goldsbrough was born in Wakefield in 1983 and got involved with music at an early age, although serious musical commitments didn't begin until the age of 9, when she took up the baritone horn and joined the brass band at her local music centre. She has been a member of at least one brass or wind band ever since, successfully achieving her grade 5 before for going musical qualifications to concentrate on her GCSEs. She is still playing baritone and has recently taken up tenor trombone.

Lyric writing stemmed naturally from poetry writing as an expressive outlet for Cath. At the tender age of 16, lyricism became a necessary emotional release, never intended to be seen by others' eyes. However, gradually her lyrics became more focused and a desire to set them to music required collaboration with other musicians, as composition was never one of her fortes.

Working in this way has been beneficial for Cath, providing a confidence boost and allowing her to believe in the strength of her own work, always a problem for creative types! Cath finds her lyrics too personal to be able to sing them herself, although she takes inspiration from other people's experiences as well as her own.

In her spare time, Cath is a keen sportswoman, with climbing, skiing, hiking and football among her hobbies. She is currently a climbing instructor by trade, and is looking to become a primary school teacher in the near future, while continuing to write lyrics in her spare time.
